The meet consists of two other MAC programs in the form of Bowling Green and Miami

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team continues its season as a handful of Eagles participate in the BG Open Friday, Dec. 8, in the Perry Field House located in Bowling Green, Ohio. There will be 13 Eagles competing across nine events in the conference showdown, which includes host-Bowling Green and Miami (Ohio).

The Green and White will have representatives in the 60m, 300m, and 200m dashes, as well as the 60m hurdles. Additionally, there will be Eagles in the weight throw, long jump, pole vault, high jump, triple jump, and the shot put.

Many of the upperclassmen won't make the trip to Bowling Green, as the meet will see eight freshmen compete in the form of Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica), Keypathwa Gibson (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), Savanah Luthman (New Bremen, Ohio-Minster), Kiara Randolph (Gahanna, Ohio-Gahanna East), Graysen Simmons (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne), Crystal Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.-Carson), and Emily Westers (Hastings, Mich.-Hastings). The open also serves as the first collegiate competition for Randolph and Westers, and the first action of the 2017-18 season for sophomore Catherine Mittiga (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams), as neither of the three competed in the GVSU Holiday Open last weekend.

Eastern captured six individual event titles and had three student-athletes finish runner-up in their events in its season-opener a weekend ago, not including the 4x400 relay team, which also took second place. Redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) earned Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week for her first-place finish in the 5000m, which also served as a personal record and the third-best time in indoor program history.

Of the student-athletes competing Friday, Gibson and senior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J.-Toms River North) finished with the highest placements at the GVSU Holiday Open, as Gibson assisted the 4x400 relay team to its second-place finish as well as taking fourth in the 400m dash, while Byrd also finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.83. During the BG Open, Gibson will compete in her first 200 and 300m dash events as an Eagle, while Byrd will once again take part in the 60m hurdles.

Action is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with the field events, while the running events will begin at 6 p.m. Fans can follow live stats by clicking here, or by following the link displayed on the women's track and field schedule page on EMUEagles.com.
