YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball program has announced its 2017-18 game promotions schedule. The remaining 10 home games this season will have theme nights designed to make students, alumni, and the community an important factor in the home court advantage.
Back home against Longwood University, Dec. 20, it will be Kids' Day at the Convo with Santa Swoop in attendance. The last game before the new year will be Kent State University, Dec. 30, which will be Family Day. All kids will have access to temporary tattoos, balloon hats and animals and the Fun Zone. Photos with Swoop will be available in the atrium. After the game all kids are welcome down to the court for layups.
Opening the new year at home will with a doubleheader against the University of Toledo, Jan. 6, will see Star Wars Day along with Ypsi Community/Taste of Ypsi Day. There will be packages available to purchase for tickets to the game and sampling of items from the local vendors. For Star Wars Day there will be free glow-in-the-dark light sabers to the first 300 fans. Finally, the 20 best Star Wars costumes will be given tickets to go see Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
At home to in-state rival, Western Michigan University, Jan. 17, EMU Student Organization and Sorority Recruitment Night will happen. Groups will be entered in a drawing to watch the game from one of the suites, compete in head-to-head on-court challenges, and shoot free-throws after the game.
During the Wednesday, Jan. 24, game versus Miami University, there will be a halftime karate performance.
To start off the February schedule, EMU opens play against in-state rival Central Michigan University, Feb. 3, with Craft Beer Tasting and Play4Kay Pink Day. During the game, pink rally towels and bracelets will be given away.
When the University of Akron comes to Ypsilanti, Feb. 11, EMU will host Sunday Funday and will hold Wine Tasting and Nurse Appreciation Day. Most Valuable Professor Night will take place on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, against Ohio University. The most valuable professor according to women's basketball student-athletes will be honored, plus the first 200 ladies in attendance will be given roses.
Saturday Feb. 24, versus Northern Illinois University will be Girl Scouts Day, and Mascot/Residence Hall Day.
For the final game of the season against Ball State University, March 3, Senior Day will take place along with National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which features a pre-game clinic with the EMU cheer, dance, and other athletic teams from 10-11 a.m. in the atrium.
Additionally, EMU will be hosting a "10K Putt" on select dates throughout the year with one lucky contestant chosen to make a full-court putt for $10,000. The contest will be run on Jan. 6, Jan. 17, Feb. 3, and Feb. 14 games.
