FULL CLIFF KEEN RESULTS
LAS VEGAS (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team concluded its run at the 2017 Cliff Keen Invite Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. EMU's lone wrestler to compete on the day, nationally ranked redshirt senior Gage Hutchison (Buchanan, Mich.-Buchanan), was defeated in his only match, finishing just outside of the top-eight placing wrestlers.
The heavyweight drew No. 25 nationally ranked Andrew Dunn out of Virginia Tech. Hutchison controlled the match early on, as he led 11-2 near the end of the second period, but Dunn reversed out of the control of Hutchison, and caught the big man on his back for the second period fall. The loss dropped Hutchison just outside of the top-eight in the 43-man bracket, and just shy of his second-straight top-eight finish at Cliff Keen, after taking seventh at heavyweight last season.
As a team, EMU finished the tournament with 16 total wins among its 10 grapplers, totaling 27 points. Out of the 45 teams, Eastern finished in 27th place.
The Eagles return to the mats next Friday, Dec. 8, when they head to Ohio take on Cleveland State University in dual action. The final dual of the 2017 calender year is set to begin at 7 p.m.
