Thompson earns his first Player of the Week honor of the 2017-18 season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University junior basketball player James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 17. It is the first award for the Eagles of the 2017-18 season.

The Baton Rouge, La. native registered his ninth double-double in 10 games against Long Beach State, Dec. 16 when he scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. The junior shot 9-of-12 (.750) from the floor and added two block and a steal in the Eagles' 85-80 road victory.

Thompson's nine double-doubles is tops in the Mid-American Conference and third in the NCAA Division I. The center remains one of the dominant inside forces in the MAC, leading the conference by almost three rebounds per game with a 12.7 average. The junior is also second in field goal percentage (69.9), third in blocks per game (1.6), and seventh in the conference in points per game (17.7).

Eastern Michigan has started the season 8-2 and travels to Oakland, Fri. Dec. 22 to take on the Golden Grizzlies.
