Casey Gavigan Named MAC Swimmer Of The Week

This is the first time Gavigan has received the honor
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Sophomore Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville) of the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team earned Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors for her performance last weekend against the University of Akron, the league office announced Thursday, Nov. 9. This is the first time Gavigan has earned the accolade while its the first weekly award for an Eagle this season.
In the exciting victory over the defending MAC champions, Gavigan aided Eastern with a pair of season-best times to sweep the backstroke events, while contributing to a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Gavigan started the meet with a bang, clocking the fastest 50 back split of the 200 medley relay. Then moving to the individual events, she recorded her first win of the afternoon in the 100 back, touching in at 55.39. In the 200 back, Gavigan led a 1-2 punch for the Green and White clocking in at 2:01.48, over a full second better than her previous season-best.
The Eagles return to the pool to take on in-state foe, Oakland University, this Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
