Schedule
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University baseball team announced its 2018 schedule Thursday, Nov. 9. The Eagles will play a full 56-game slate that includes 16 games at Oestrike Stadium. The fourth season under Head Coach Mark Van Ameyde will begin Feb. 16 in Florida.
With the season starting in the winter months, the Green and White open the season in the warmer parts of the country, as the first 20 games of the season are away from home. Eastern gets things started in the Sunshine State with a four-game series against Florida Gulf Coast, Feb. 16-18, followed by a midweek clash with Division II Lynn University, Feb.20. The FGCU Eagles are coming off a 42-20 campaign and NCAA regional appearance.
The following weekend, Feb. 23-25, the Green and White venture up to Mississippi for a four-game series with Jackson State. They then dip back into the Florida panhandle the next weekend, March 2-4 for three neutral site games in Pensacola, Fla. against Southern Miss, Nicholls State, and Ohio State.
EMU returns to the northern part of the country, March 6, for a quick midweek against Dayton, before going back down south for back-to-back weekend series against Oklahoma State, March 9-11, and then UT Rio Grande Valley, March 16-17. Eastern then sees Ohio State again, this time in Columbus, March 21, before starting conference play.
Eastern opens its Mid-American Conference and home schedule when Miami comes to town, March 23-25. The following Tuesday, March 27, Youngstown State visits Ypsilanti for the first of four midweek home games at Oestrike. The Eagles' first road MAC series will be at Bowling Green, March 30-April 1, followed by a midweek contest against in-state foe, Michigan State, April 4, in East Lansing.
April 6-8, the Ball State Cardinals come to town for a weekend set. The Eagles and Cardinals will square off for the first time since 2016 after having a break in the series last season. Oakland then visits Oestrike for the first leg of a home-and-home series, April 10.
The next two weekends, Eastern hits the road for conference play, starting with the defending MAC Tournament champs Ohio, April 13-15, followed by Toledo, April 20-22. EMU and MSU then square off again, April 24, in the Clash at Comerica Park, the home of the Detroit Tigers. It will mark the second time in the last three seasons the Eagles and Spartans play at the MLB stadium.
Western Michigan will visit for a weekend series, April 27-29, followed by a home-and-home with Michigan to start the month of May. EMU visits Ann Arbor, May 1, while the Wolverines come back the other way, May 2.
The Eagles renew the rivalry with Central Michigan, May 4-6, when EMU visits Mount Pleasant. While Eastern and Central did not meet in the regular season last year, they did play twice in the MAC Tournament semifinals, as the Eagles won two in a row to knock out the Chippewas and advance to the finals.
That successive midweek, EMU completes home and homes with Dayton and Oakland, as the Eagles visit the Golden Grizzlies, May 8, followed by a visit from the Flyers, May 9. Eastern's final road conference series will take place against Kent State, May 11-13.
The final midweek game of 2018 comes against the Butler Bulldogs in Indianapolis, May 15. EMU's regular season slate concludes with a three-game series against Northern Illinois, May 17-19.
The MAC Tournament will be played over a span of five days at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio, May 23-27. If the Eagles win the MAC title, they will advance to the NCAA Regional, June 1-3. The College World Series will be held June 16-27 in Omaha, Neb.
