- The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team was pegged to finish second in the Mid-American Conference this indoor season, according to the coaches' preseason poll released Thursday, Nov. 30 by the league office.

The Eagles received two first-place votes and were placed just behind last year's MAC Champions, Akron. Kent State also received a first-place vote and were tabbed to finish third in the conference. Following the Golden Flashes is Northern Illinois at fourth, Buffalo at fifth, and Miami at sixth, while Western Michigan, Toledo, Bowling Green, and Central Michigan round out the top-10, respectively. Ball State was selected to finish 11th while Ohio was slotted at 12th to finish out the preseason rankings.

The Green and White had four individual champions in last year's indoor conference title meet, as then-junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area) took the crown in the 200m, then-junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich-Chippewa Valley) won the title in the 800m, then-redshirt junior Alsu Boganova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) placed first in the mile, and then-sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) captured gold in the 3000m. Additionally, EMU had three second-place finishes and ended with eight student-athletes earning All-MAC honors. Seven of the eight return for competition this year, including Bogdanova and Meyers, who earned Most Valuable Performer and Most Outstanding Track Performer, respectively.

The Green and White will open its 2017-18 season Friday, Dec. 1, in Allendale, Mich. for the GVSU Holiday Open.
