Eastern started the season with a 2-1 dual record on the road
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Coming off an impressive win in its Mid-American Conference dual season opener, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team welcomes the University of Akron for its home opener Saturday, Nov. 4. The Eagles, not having lost a MAC dual meet since the 2014-15 campaign, are in the hunt for an 11th consecutive win.
This weekend's tilt marks the first time the two squads have faced each other since Eastern topped Akron, 156-142, on the road, Jan. 23, 2016. The Eagles won 11-of-16 events to defuse the Zips. Individually, then-sophomore Alli Shereda (Fraser, Mich.-Fraser), then-freshmen Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) and Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg), as well as recent graduates Becca Detro, Alexis Mitcheltree, Mary Kate MacLean, Grace Van Allen, and Carly Jackson all brought home an event win.
The Eagles return to the pool on the heels of a dominating 207-93 win over Bowling Green State University, Oct. 28. Sophomore Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Points South) paced the Eagles, winning a meet-high 22 points. After starting the meet with the fastest 50 backstroke split in the 200 medley relay, Young went on to win the 100 back and 200 individual medley and tacked on a second-place finish in the 200 back. Junior Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) had an outstanding day in the long distance events, posting a pair of wins in the 1000 and 500 freestyle.
Action in slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Jones Natatorium. Fans can follow along with the action here or on the MeetMobile app.
