The two-day event hosted by EMU will take place Dec. 1-2
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team returns to the pool after a three-week hiatus to wrap up the 2017 portion of its schedule, when it hosts the EMU Invitational this weekend, Friday-Saturday, Dec. 1-2, at Jones Natatorium.
Over the past 20 years, the Green and White has never placed lower than second in the annual event, while claiming the top spot the past three years. EMU is currently in the largest winning streak for the squad since EMU won the event four years in a row (1999-2002). Eastern most recently posted 1,311 points to earn the win last season, besting second-place finisher Wayne State by nearly 400 points in a dominating fashion with nine different Eagles posting a first-place finish.
This year, Eastern will square off against Ball State, Wayne State, Tiffin, and Albion.
The Eagles enter the weekend after securing its fourth consecutive dual win this season against Oakland University, Nov. 11. In the 199-101 victory over the Golden Grizzlies, seven different Eagles posted first-place marks with junior Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) pacing the way with three. Junior Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) and sophomore Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville) both picked up two wins each. Senior Alli Shereda (Fraser, Mich.-Fraser), juniors Michal Liberman (Rosh Haayin, Israel, Begin) and Emilie Desnoyers (St. Albert, Alberta), and sophomore Brielle Johnston (Ottawa, Ontario-Catholique Franco-Quest) each took home a first-place finish.
Action at the EMU Invitational is slated to begin Friday with the divers at 2 p.m. The swimming events are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Fans can follow along with the action here or on the MeetMobile app.
