Payne and Ingram signed National Letters of Intent in the early signing period

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University Men's Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach John Goodridge, announced the signing of National Letters of Intent from two student-athletes, Andy Payne (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) and Joseph Ingram (Cincinnati, Ohio-Anderson), Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Payne brings with him solid experience and skill in distance competitions, with an impressive 3200m best-time of 9:13. Most recently, Payne competed at the Ohio Division I State Cross Country Championships, where he notched an eighth-place finish in the 5000m. Payne is the second recruit Goodridge has plucked from Thomas Worthington High School in as many years, as current freshman Ian Cook (Worthington, Ohio-Thomas Worthington) also attended the school located in Worthington, Ohio.

"I was impressed with Andy's competitive drive the first time I saw him race," Goodridge said. "Andy is looking forward to training for and racing the longer collegiate distances."

Ingram, a Cincinnati Anderson High School product, also brings experience running at high levels of competition. His junior season saw three first-place finishes in championship competition, including two in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference Championships. Ingram posted a time of 4:20.99 to take the 1600m title at the ECCC's, while capturing first place in the 3200m with a presonal-best time of 9:44.60. Additionally, he notched a first-place finish in the 1600m during the OHSAA Division I Southwest District Championships, and captured second place in the same event at the OHSAA Division I Region Four Championships, crossing the finish line with a personal-best time 4:16.63.

"Joseph missed his senior cross country season due to a stress fracture," Goodridge added about Ingram. "Being a former wrestler, Joseph understands competition and is eager to test himself in distance running."

Goodridge and his current Eagles start up their indoor track and field season Friday, Dec. 1, as they participate in the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Mich.
