EMU's selections ranked sixth-most in the league

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team landed 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league announced Thursday, Nov. 16. A total of 120 student-athletes were named to the team. The Eagles' 10 selection were sixth-most in the league.

The Academic All-MAC honor is to recognize student-athletes who excel in both athletics and in academics. To qualify, student-athletes must have at least 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have played in at least 50 percent of the contests in the particular sport.

Receiving the accolade for the Eagles were: junior Mia Colavito (Mississauga, Ontario-Loyola Catholic), sophomore Aubrey Martin (Toronto, Ontario-Father John Redmond), senior Chanel Vani (Brampton, Ontario-Cardinal Leger), sophomore Maggie McCullough (London, Ontario-Oakridge Secondary), redshirt junior Kristin Nason (Brooklin, Ontario-Donald A. Wilson), junior Mikayla Cupp (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego), senior Alex Wilbanks (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Lincoln), junior Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka), junior Peyton Davis (North Ridgeville, Ohio-Holy Name), and junior Mackenzie Etienne (Midland, Mich.-Midland Dow).

A history major, Colavito is one of two Eagles to boast a 4.00 GPA and this marks the second time she has received this honor. The Mississauga, Ontario native played in 14 matches for the Eagles, making three starts for a career-high 437 minutes of action. Recording nine shots with three on frame, Colavito registered the first point of her career, assisting on an Eastern goal in a 2-1 win over Akron, Oct. 1.

Martin, another Eagle with a perfect 4.00 grade point average, played in 12 matches, making six starts for the Green and White while battling injuries. The pre-medicine major totaled 697 minutes of action on the backline, aiding the Eagles to two shutouts. The Toronto, Ontario native recorded one shot, putting it on frame, against Detroit Mercy, Sept. 17.

Vani was just one of four Eagles to start every match this season, totaling a career-high 1,756 minutes on the backline. The exercise science major, who maintains a 3.83 GPA, led Eastern to four shutouts and recorded an assist in EMU's 3-0 win over Western Michigan, Oct. 19.

The London, Ontario native led the Eagles to two shutouts and recorded four shots, putting one on target.

Nason, a communications major with a 3.71 grade point average, appeared in 19 games for the Green and White with 17 starts for a career-high 1416 minutes. Registering two goals and a pair of helpers for six points, the Brooklin, Ontario native ranked tied for third on the team in points and goals, while she tied for second on the team in assists. In a three-point effort against Western Michigan, Oct. 19, Nason reached the 20-point mark of her career, becoming the first Eagle to achieve the feat since Ellie Tillar did so in 2016. This is the second time Nason has been named to the All-MAC Academic team in her career.

Battling injuries, Cupp was limited to 13 games and 11 starts for the Green and White. Helping the Eagles to three shutouts while splitting time between defense and midfield, the accounting major with a 3.69 GPA recorded four shots with three on target.

An exercise science major, Wilbanks served as a team captain for the season while boasting a 3.63 GPA. Appearing in 13 matches with two starts, the Ypsilanti, Mich. native finished her career with two points after netting the game-winning goal on Senior Day against Northern Illinois, Oct. 22.

The Kansas City, Mo. native ranked third in the MAC with a career-high 100 saves, tied for third in saves per game (5.00), tied for sixth in shutouts (four), and ninth for shutouts per game (0.20). Williams, who earned MAC Player of Week honors twice this season, posted four shutouts in the 2017 campaign, including a pair to back-to-back shutouts, to push her career total to 10. Leading the team in goals and points with a career-high five and 12, respectively, she recorded 32 shots, putting 15 on target.  The exercise science major with a 3.34 grade point average tied for second on the team with two assists. She posted a pair of three-point efforts in the 2-1 win over Bowling Green, Oct. 5, and EMU's 3-0 win over Western Michigan, Oct. 19. This marks the second time in Davis' career that she earned the accolade.
