YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Senior swimmer Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory) of the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team picked up Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors for his performance against Oakland University, Nov. 11, the league office announced Thursday, Nov. 16.
Burton paced Eastern in its 193-107 win over Oakland, bringing in 18 points with two individual event wins and a first and second-place finish in relays. In the 200 medley relay, the Chesapeake, Va. native started the meet off in style, clocking in with the fastest 50 yard backstroke split in the pool to help the foursome to a second-place finish. Earning his first individual win in the 100 back, Burton turned in the fastest time in the MAC this season at 49.36, to remain undefeated in the event. The senior kept the momentum alive in the 100 butterfly, touching in with a time of 49.44. In the final event of the afternoon, Burton aided his 400 free relay cohort to a first-place finish at 3:02.97, finishing almost three seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Burton, who received the CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major award earlier this season, is the second Eagle to earn the league award in the 2017-18 campaign, joining junior Tosh Kawaguchi.
The Eagles are currently on a three-week hiatus before returning to the pool for the EMU Invitational, Dec. 2-3. The first day of action is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Jones Natatorium.
