All four student-athletes have the ability to compete in each event
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University Head Gymnastics Coach Katie Minasola, announced the signing of National Letters of Intent of four student-athletes in the form of Charlotte Reynolds, Carly Kosanovich, Brooke Hylek, and Karalyn Roberts, Wednesday, Nov. 8.
"I am very excited for the addition of Brooke, Carly, Charlotte and Kara," Minasola said. " These young ladies have already created a special bond that will flow right into our Eagle family. These future Eagles will add depth to our lineups on all four events. I am really looking forward to combining the strengths of this class to our current team."
Reynolds, a Leominster, Mass. native brings experience to all four events, having competed on vault, bars, beam, and floor extensively in level 10 since 2013. Reynolds is most recently coming off a year in which she reached the JO National Championships after a strong showing in the Region Six Championships, where she placed second on bars with a score of 9.250, en route to taking sixth in the all-around. This was Reynolds' third straight year competing in the JO National Championships, as she participated in the Level 10 Senior A division in 2016 and the Junior C division in 2015.
"She will be a great supplement to our team," said Minasola. "I couldn't be more excited about the addition of the beautiful lines of Charlotte's gymnastics."
Another regular in both national and regional competition, Hylek has participated in six regional championships and two JO National Championships throughout her career. This past year, Hylek had an impressive performance on bars at the Region Five Championships, taking bronze with a score of 9.350 in level 10 competition. The Eagle, Mich. native's performance was just a year removed from the 2016 regionals, where she took the bars title with a score of 9.550, while also placing third in the all-around with a career-high level 10 score of 37.425. Additionally, her performance granted an appearance to the 2016 level 10 JO Nationals, where she followed up her strong showing in regionals with another strong bars routine, posting a 9.550 to tie for 13th place.
"The consistency that Brooke will bring to our bar line will add to the overall strength of our team," Minasola explained.
Kosanovich also brings experience in all four events at high levels of competition, most recently coming off a Regional Championship where she notched three top-10 finishes in level 10 competition, placing eighth on floor, ninth on beam, and 10th in the all-around. The Moon Township, Pa. native has also competed in the Pennsylvania State Championships the last six years, bringing home the vault title in 2011 in level 7 competition. She has also posted a top-10 all-around finish in all but one of the championship meets, including her most recent trip to the State Championship, where she placed fifth in vault and floor, and sixth in bars and the all-around.
"Carly is another fantastic addition to our team," Minasola explained. "Her balance of both dynamics and power is going to add a lot of strength to this program."
Roberts, a Pinckney, Mich. native, has been competing in level 10 competition since 2014 and has participated in the Region Five Championships in all three years at that level, including two trips to the JO National Championships in 2016 and 2015. Roberts is most recently coming off a Region Five Championship where she took silver on vault with a score of 9.600, fifth on floor with a 9.375, and eighth in the all-around with a 36.500. Her performance in last year's regionals warranted her latest trip to the JO Nationals, where she competed to a 13th-place finish on floor.
"Not only is Kara's experience something of great value, but I love the amount of energy she brings," Minasola added about the Pinckney native.
"Overall, the combined experience of this class at the national level will fit right into our championship values."
EMU begins its 2018 regular season campaign, Jan. 6, with a trip to State College, Pa. to take on Penn State. The Eagles follow their season opener with the first home meet and Mid-American Conference matchup of the year, as they take on the Chippewas of Central Michigan a week later, Jan. 13, in the Convocation Center.
