Peyton Davis recorded a goal for the second straight game
TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - A halftime tie got away from the Eastern Michigan University soccer team versus the University of Toledo Sunday, Oct. 8, at Scott Park. The Eagles (5-9-1, 2-4-0 MAC) fought back to even the score late in the first half, but the Rockets (6-5-3, 3-1-2 MAC) used three second-half goals to clip the Eagles, 4-1.
EMU and UT put six shots on frame each, while Toledo held a 15-10 edge in shots. The Green and White earned a game-high six corners and surrendered just five.
A third-minute strike by the Rockets put the Eagles behind early, but constant pressure by UT over the next 10 minutes kept EMU's backline busy.
The Eagles snapped out of it and began connecting things midway through the first half, paying off in a flurry of shots. Redshirt junior Kristin Nason (Brooklin, Ontario-Donald A. Wilson) and Madeline Olson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) put shots on frame, but Toledo's keeper stopped both, while junior Mackenzie Etienne's (Midland, Mich.-Midland) heel flick hit the near side post.
After a couple close calls, junior Peyton Davis (North Ridgeville, Ohio-Holy Name) corralled a ball inside of midfield, took a touch, and fired a shot from 25 yards out. Her rip tucked inside the upper 90, leveling the score at one. Davis' goal was her second of the season and EMU's first first half goal since Aug. 28.
Eastern Michigan had its chances to take the lead early in the second half, but could not find the back of the net.
Toledo garnered a pair of corners in the 61st minute, and despite Eastern denying initial opportunities, UT slotted home the game-winner on a secondary chance.
With the Eagles pressing, the Rockets added insurance goals in the 69th and 88th minutes, sealing a 4-1 setback.
Eastern Michigan looks to bounce back next weekend when it continues a three-game road swing. EMU starts the weekend in Muncie, Ind. Friday, Oct. 13, against Ball State University. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
