Korn comes to EMU off a two-year stint with Jacksonville State University
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team added a new member to its coaching staff in the form of Brian Korn, Head Coach John Goodridge announced Friday, Oct. 6. Korn will act as an assistant coach with an emphasis on the throwers, starting Wednesday, Oct. 11.
"I am very happy to welcome Brian and his wife to Ypsilanti and Eastern Michigan University as our new assistant track and field coach," said Goodridge. "A national search was conducted and a resounding consensus was that Brian is one of the very best up and coming throws coaches in the country."
Korn brings five years of collegiate coaching experience to EMU. Most recently, he held the assistant track and field coach position at Jacksonville State University, where he assisted in all facets of the program since starting the role in 2014.
Prior to JSU, Korn served as the strength coach for Southwest Baptist University's track and field program. While at SBU, he assisted in running the weight room as well as designing workouts and practices for the program. Prior to obtaining a full time position at Southwest Baptist, Korn acted as a Graduate Assistant during the indoor season at William Woods University.
"I was tremendously impressed with his intellect and 'feel' for coaching and his career experiences of dedicating himself to studying and training with some of the most highly respected throws coaches in the country," added Goodridge. "Brian has had a very positive impact developing school record holders and national qualifiers at each of his previous positions, including an NAIA National Champion in the hammer, JUCO Champion in the shot put, and five USATF National Qualifiers."
Along with several years of collegiate coaching experience, Korn also holds a certificate for coaching USATF level one as well as weightlifting and sports performance.
Before taking on a coaching position, Korn was a track & field student-athlete at Baker University, where he was an NAIA All-American in the hammer throw while setting both school and conference records in the hammer, weight throw, and shot put. Korn earned a bachelor's degree in human performance in 2011.
