OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team put together an impressive performance to claim its eighth straight Mid-American Conference title, Saturday, Oct. 28 in Oxford, Ohio, tying the conference record for most consecutive titles. Claiming the program's 22nd MAC Championship, Eastern Michigan is the first school since Miami (1949-1956) to claim the conference title eight years in-a-row.
EMU posted a team score of 27 points, which is the fourth-best team score in MAC Championship history, with the three top performances also coming from the Eastern performances (2006-23, 2014-23, and 2016-15).

Eastern placed five harriers within the top-10, including redshirt senior and team co-captain Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) and senior Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium-Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven), who were the first two competitors to cross the finish line at 24:30.0 and 24:32.8, respectively. This marks Andresson's first individual MAC title and third First Team All-MAC honor, as he placed second in last year's meet and fifth in the 2014 event, to earn his first two conference honors. With Andresson's first-place finish, an Eagle has been crowned the MAC Individual Champion in each of the last four years. Additionally, this is Bouchikhi's fourth straight year earning First Team All-MAC honors.
Redshirt senior and co-captain Abel Flores (Defiance, Ohio-Defiance) placed fifth, to earn First Team All-MAC honors for the second consecutive season, finishing with a time of 24:41.9. With the 2017 conference race, Andresson, Bouchikhi, and Flores ended their EMU careers with a combined nine First Team All-MAC honors.

Fellow redshirt senior Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis.-River Falls) put together his best performance in the conference championships, placing seventh in 24:46.0, which is six places higher than his previous best finish in the event. His performance also earned him First Team All-MAC honors for the first time in his career.

Sophomore Austin Wicker (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) rounded out the Eagles inside the top-10, placing ninth in a career-best 25:06.4, earning Second Team All-MAC honors. Wicker's conference honors are the first of his career, and his ninth place was 24 places better than his performance in last year's event.

Freshman Owen Day (NRW, Germany-International School of Dusseldorf) was the sixth Eagle to cross the finish line, placing 17th in a career-best 25:12.2. Day's 17th-place finish was the best among all freshmen, earning him MAC Freshman of the Year honors. Day is the first Eagle in program history to reel in the accolade. Fellow freshman Hunter Moore (Lewis Center, Ohio-Olentangy Orange) put together a solid performance in his first race at the championship level, placing 27th with a time of 25:27.9.

In addition to Day earning Freshman of the Year, Head Coach John Goodridge captured his 12th MAC Cross Country Men's Head Coach of the Year award, while it was the seventh straight year in which Goodridge has been named the conference's coach of the year, furthering his lead for the most in league history.
The Green and White will have a week of rest but will kick back into action for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Friday, Nov. 10, in Terre Haute, Ind.
