The Eagles return seven of the nine harriers from the 2016 conference championship

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team begins its postseason Saturday, Oct. 28, as it competes in the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championship race in Oxford, Ohio. The No. 25-ranked Eagles are in search of the program's third conference championship in as many years.

"It should be a great competition and we feel like we're ready for a strong performance on Saturday.  We've improved with every meet and with every week of training and we're ready to put it all together and have a total team performance in Oxford."

After winning their first-ever MAC Championship in 2015, the Eagles followed up the program's best performance in the event by putting together an even better outing in last year's race. The Green and White saw four student-athletes place within the top-10, as well as two other harriers place in the top-15 en route to its second conference title in program history. All four harriers who earned top-10 finishes and First Team All-MAC honors in 2016 return for this year's race, as All-American senior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison), redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83), redshirt junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich-Chippewa Valley), and junior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) are all available for participation. Additionally, three other EMU runners from last year's competition return in the form of 2016 Second Team All-MAC honoree redshirt senior Anna Aldrich (Fremont, Ind.-Fremont), senior Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium-Sportschool KA2), and redshirt junior Allie Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Warren Mott).

The Eagles capped off their 2017 regular season, Oct. 20, at the EMU Fall Classic held at the Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich. Eastern used the annual meet as an opportunity to rest its more experienced runners in advance of the MAC Championship. Freshman Tarynn Cullings (Medina, Ohio-Medina) led the way for the Green and White, finishing with a team-high 13th-place with a final time of 18:40.2. Senior Lauren Pottschmidt (Granger, Ind.-Penn) also had a strong day, finishing 20th in 19:00.3.

EMU will square off against 11 other MAC schools, three of which fall within the same region as the Green and White. The Great Lakes Region is home to Toledo, Miami, and Ohio who currently sit at No. 8, No. 11, and No. 15 in the regional rankings, respectively. The Eagles are the highest ranked MAC program in the Great Lakes Region, as they're presently slotted at No. 4.

The MAC Championship, hosted by Miami University, begins at 11 a.m.
