MADISON, Wis. (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team placed 14th in the Nuttycombe Invitational Friday, Oct. 13, in Madison, Wis. The Eagles posted a team score of 403 points, topping five teams ranked within the nation's top-30.

"It was a good showing for where our fitness is right now," said Head Coach Sue Parks. "I feel that we made a big jump the last two weeks and we'll continue to make progress as a few key athletes round into top shape."

Senior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) led the Eagles with a 27th-place finish, crossing the line in 20:20.8. She has now led the Green and White in every meet she has participated in this season (three). Redshirt-senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) put together a strong performance, placing 39th in 20:31.5 for the team's second-best finish of the day, while redshirt-junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valey) managed to crack the top-100, ranking 80th out of a pool of 227 runners.

"We got out faster than we did at Notre Dame but still not quite where we need to be," added Parks. "We plan to work on racing sharp in the weeks to come. It was a solid team effort and we're excited to take this momentum into the next two weeks as we prepare for the MAC Championship."

The Green and White entered the meet merely receiving votes to be ranked within the top-30, but ended the day above No. 14 Indiana (17th), No. 22 Utah (16th), No. 22 Georgetown (19th), No. 27 Yale (20th), and No. 28 Virginia (21st).

EMU also raced seven harriers in the women's open, finishing eighth with a total score of 208 points, edging meet-host Wisconsin (9th - 216). Freshman Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Homestead) paced the runners in the open division, placing 46th with a time of 22:14.5. Fellow freshman Tarynn Cullings (Medina, Ohio-Medina) and seniors Lauren Pottschmidt (Granger, Ind.-Penn) and Claire Mesa (Rockford, Ill.-Rockford Lutheran) rounded out the Eastern harriers who ranked within the top-90 at No. 67, No. 84, and No. 86, respectively.

The Eagles finish out their regular season Friday, Oct. 20, as they play host during the annual EMU Fall Classic held in Dexter, Mich.
