Men's Cross Country Finishes 22nd at Nuttycombe Invite

The Eagles topped the likes of five teams ranked in the top-30

MADISON, Wis. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team finished 22nd at the Nuttycombe Invite Friday, Oct. 13, in Madison, Wis. The Eagles placed two harriers within the top-60, ending with a team score of 581 points.
Redshirt-senior captain Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) remains one of the most consistent pieces of the squad, as he paced the Eagles with a 53rd-place finish with a final time of 24:22.5. Senior Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium-Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt) also finished strong, crossing the line in 24:25.2 to rank 60th. Fellow team captain redshirt-senior Abel Flores (Defiance, Ohio-Defiance) was the third EMU harrier to finish, placing 82nd with a time of 24:36.5.
The Eagles came into the weekend looking at the nation's top-30 ranked teams from the outside, but managed to outcompete five nationally ranked programs. Of the five included: No. 16 Illinois (28th), No. 18 Virginia (30th), No. 21 Indiana (29th), No. 28 Wisconsin (25th), and No. 30 Columbia (33rd).
Two freshmen got the nod to participate in the collegiate division in the form of Hunter Moore (Lewis Center, Ohio-Olentangy Orange) and Owen Day (NRW, Germany-International School of Dusseldorf). The two ran strong in a meet which included most of the top runners in America, as Moore and Day finished 180th and 209th, respectively.
EMU also raced five members in the men's open division in the form of freshmen Zachary Young (Marion, Ill.-Marion), Phoenix Myers (Wattsburg, Pa.-Seneca), Rhys Grealish (Indianapolis, Ind.-Avon), Johnelle Joe (Mount Pleasant, Mich.-Mount Pleasant), and senior Caleb Hess (Owosso, Mich.-Owosso). Young finished with a team-best 52nd-place and was shortly followed by Hess, who crossed the finish line at 54th. Myers, Gealish, and Joe rounded out the Eagles in the open division at No. 56, No. 57, and No. 59, respectively.
The Eagles finish out their regular season Friday, Oct. 20, as they play host during the annual EMU Fall Classic held in Dexter, Mich.
