The team returns to action after a week off of competition
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team competes in the Nuttycombe Invitational Friday, Oct. 13, in Madison, Wis. The meet will serve as the second straight competition that will include a handful of the top ranked programs in the nation, as the Eagles most recently competed in the star-studded Notre Dame Invitational.
Although the Green and White had its toughest challenge yet in the Notre Dame Invite, the Nuttycombe Invitational will be an even greater task as the pool of teams includes 16 programs within the nation's top-30. Five of the ranked programs sit within the top-10, as No. 3 New Mexico, No. 5 Stanford, No. 6 San Fransisco, No. 7 NC State, and No. 8 Providence will all be competing. Additionally, three more teams are slotted within the top-15 in the form of No. 11 Washington, No. 13 Boise State, and No. 14 Indiana.
EMU is the lone Mid-American Conference representative, however, two of the top-five teams in the Great Lakes Region who are currently placed above Eastern (No. 5), will be present in the form of Indiana (No. 2) and Wisconsin (No. 3), as well as the region's No. 6-ranked Michigan State, No. 7 Notre Dame, and No. 10 Purdue.
The last time EMU's women's cross country team competed in the event was seven years ago in 2010. The Eagles finished 16th with 444 points and were paced by a 10th-place finish from Courtney Calka.
The event is scheduled to begin 12:20 p.m. EST on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. Fans will be able to follow along by way of live results and live streaming, both of which are located on the EMU women's cross country schedule page.
