YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team returns to action this weekend, Saturday, Oct. 14, when it travels to the Bluegrass State to take on the University of Kentucky. This is the first time the Eagles and Wildcats have faced each other in the pool for a dual.
The Eagles enter the weekend after handing Northwestern a 153-141 defeat in their season opener, Oct. 11. Eight first-place finishes paced the Eagles, including a sweep in the backstroke events by junior Tosh Kawaguchi (Cary, N.C.-Cary), who also earned the top spot in the 200 individual medley. Senior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory) was a strong point contributor for EMU, sweeping the fly events while junior Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate) also added nine points after snagging the top spot in the 100 freestyle.
Trailing Northwestern by six points with two remaining events, the Green and White secured its victory in the 200 individual medley, led by juniors Kawaguchi and Ricky Perez (Greenfield, Wis.-Greenfield).
Action between Eastern and Kentucky is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
