Eagles of the Week Presented by EMU Credit Union

Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMU Credit Union's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Baylee Steele and wrestler Noah Gonser.
Sport: Men's Basketball
Position: Center
Year: Sophomore
Major: Undecided
Week's Achievements: Steele had a pair of career games for the Eagles against Central Michigan, Jan. 3, and Buffalo, Jan. 7. Steele, who had yet to score in double digits, posted 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds against CMU, marking the first double-double of his career. Against Buffalo, the sophomore finished with 12 points and six rebounds, giving him back-to-back double digit scoring games for the first time in his career. Through the two games, Steele shot 82.4 percent from the floor, going 14-of-17, in addition to also chipping in a pair of steals.

Year: R-Freshman
Major: Environmental Science
Week's Achievements: Gonser picked up a huge pin in the 25-14 dual win over Old Dominion, Sunday, Jan. 9. The 125 pounder led late in the third period before cradling his opponent for the fall eight seconds before the final buzzer sounded. It was the fifth pin of the season for Gonser, and his third in dual action. The No. 18 ranked wrestler in the country is 12-5 on the season.
