The Green and White held a ceremony in the Convocation Center welcoming the newest Eagle
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Softball Coach Melissa Gentile and the Eagles signed 17-year old Alyssa Feiler of Brighton, Mich. to a ceremonial letter of commitment Monday night, Jan. 30. Alyssa, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, will join the Green and White through Team IMPACT.
"We are thrilled to partner with Team IMPACT and bring Alyssa onto our team," Gentile said. "In a very short time, she has captured our hearts. We feel very blessed to have her in our lives. Today is a celebration for the Eagle program, as we bring in someone with the raw love of life and passion for others that we all hope to be. Alyssa joins the Eagle Softball family today, and has a life-long bond with our program."
Through Team IMPACT, a nonprofit based in Boston whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team, Feiler will become a member of the EMU softball team, attending practices, games, and events.
"Alyssa is really excited to join the team." Alyssa's mother, Shannon Feiler said. "The girls and coaches have been awesome. She has really had a great time so far."
Since its inception in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched 1,100 children to over 450 colleges and universities throughout the country. The child gains great strength, camaraderie and support and the student athletes are taught lessons about courage, resiliency and life perspective that they can't learn in a classroom.
