Eagles Set to Host EMU Triangular

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team remains home this weekend, playing host to the annual EMU Triangular, Saturday, Jan. 28, in Bowen Fieldhouse. This marks one of two meets taking place in Bowen this season, as EMU also hosts the Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships in late February.
Last weekend, the Eagles traveled west to compete in the GVSU Open, Friday, Jan. 20, marking the second time Eastern has trekked to Allendale, Mich. this season. Freshman Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio - West Geauga) had a solid race in the 60m dash, finishing third in the finals with a mark of 7.70 seconds. Junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. - Hempfield Area) brought home the 200m dash title, clocking in at 24.55, while freshman Micah Johnston took second in the 400m dash with a career-best time of 57.29 seconds.
Junior Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio - Circleville) snagged another silver for EMU in the 800m run, posting a time of 2:14.38, while senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) won both the mile and the 3000m. Eastern also finished atop the podium in the 4x400m relay, as well as in the 60m hurdles, where junior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J. - Roms River North) claimed the title with a time of 8.82.
Finally, junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) turned in a pair of top-two finishes in the long jump and the triple jump, taking second in the long jump with a mark of 5.80 meters/ 19 feet 0.5-inches, as well as first in the triple jump after jumping 12.26 meters/ 40 feet 2.75-inches.
With a trio of meets in the books, the Eagles still hold a number of top-50 spots in the most recent NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying List, according to Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). Jones remains in the top-50 of the 200m dash, coming in at No. 44. EMU now has a pair of distance runners in the top-15 of the mile, as Bogdanova and junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. - Chippewa Valley) hold the No. 10 and No. 15 spots, respectively. Junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) comes in at No. 15 in the 3000m, while Bogdanova remains in the top-50 at No. 43.
Finally, Cizmas, Bogdanova, sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community), and redshirt senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - University of Leuven) all hold onto top-20 spots in the 5000m. Cizmas leads the way at No. 9, with Bogdanova sitting two spots behind at No. 11, while Meyers and Gallein come in at No. 16 and No. 17, respectively.
Additionally, the Eagles still hold onto a top-20 spot in the most recent women's dual meet rankings from trackandfieldnews.com. The Eagles, who sit at No. 18, one spot behind No. 17 Indiana State and one spot ahead of No. 19 Montana, are one of three MAC teams ranked, as Akron and Kent State also hold onto top-25 rankings.
