The Eagles will square off with Oakland and Duquesne on Saturday
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team returns to action for a Saturday, Jan. 28, pair of matches, including its home opener. The Eagles (0-3) will host Oakland University at the Chippewa Racquet Club at 1 p.m. before traveling to Southfield, Mich. to take on Duquesne University at 7 p.m. at the Franklin Athletic Club.
The Green and White will square off with Oakland (0-1) for the 10th time in the program's history. Eastern Michigan is undefeated against the Golden Grizzlies, including a pair of victories a season ago. Last year, Eastern defeated OU, 5-2, Jan. 22, 2016, to grab its first win of the 2016 dual match season before rolling through the Golden Grizzlies, 6-1, March 12. In both matches, the Eagles went a perfect 6-0 combined in doubles play, while juniors Ani Gogvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia-Khikani), Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School) and Anna Veleva (Sofia, Bulgaria) each won both of their singles matches versus Oakland.
The Green and White is undefeated against Duquesne (2-0) as well, however the series has a much shorter history, one match to be exact. The only match between the Dukes and the Eagles came back during the 1996-97 campaign when Eastern Michigan swept Duquesne, 9-0.
