Swimming & Diving Teams Receive CSCAA Scholar All-America Award

NORFOLK, Va. (EMUEagles.com) —
Both Eastern Michigan University's men's and women's swimming and diving programs were named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) NCAA Division I Scholar All-American Teams for the 2016 Fall semester, as announced by the CSCAA Wednesday, Jan. 25. Eastern was one of just 77 NCAA Division I institutions to have both the men's and women's team earn the award.

A record 638 teams, representing 394 institutions earned the honor. To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher over the fall semester. In total, 73 percent of all CSCAA member programs posted GPA's above 3.00, with 91 percent of Division I women's teams meeting the mark.  Women's teams averaged a 3.336 GPA with men slightly behind at 3.22.

On the men's side, the Eagles turned in a team GPA of 3.22. All seven Mid-American Conference members earned the distinction, with EMU ranking third among conference schools. Currently, the Eagles stand at 4-2 in dual competition, and have picked up wins against Wayne State, Tiffin, Ball State, and Denison.

The women boasted a team GPA of 3.55 for the fall semester, the second-highest in the MAC, as all eight conference programs were awarded the honor. The Green and White are a perfect 6-0 in duals this season, including 2-0 in the MAC.

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) – the oldest organization of college coaches in America -is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.

The Eagles return to the water this weekend, Jan. 28, in Buffalo, N.Y. for clash with MAC foe, University at Buffalo. The co-ed dual is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
