The Eagles will take on Wayne State and Tiffin

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Following more than a month-long break, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming & diving team returns to the pool this Saturday, Jan. 21, as hosts of a tri-dual with Wayne State University and Tiffin University.

Eastern enters the tri-dual with a 4-0 overall mark, including 2-0 in Mid-American Conference competition. Additionally, EMU is riding a seven-dual win streak that dates back to Jan. 22, 2016, when the Eagles topped the Warriors, 150-86, in Ypsilanti. Then-sophomore Alli Shereda (Fraser, Mich.-Fraser) swept the diving events, while then-junior Sierra Wagner (Huntsville, Texas-Huntsville) claimed first in the 50 and 100 Freestyle to pace the Eagles.

The Eagles last competed at the EMU Invitational, Dec. 2-3. There, EMU came out on top of the team standings with a grand total of 1311 points. The score was Eastern's highest in more than a decade. The Green and White were paced by a number of season-best performances, as nine different Eagles picked up wins, while four won multiple events. Freshman Brielle Johnston (Ottawa, Ontario-Catholique Franco-Quest) dominated the springboard, winning both the 1 and 3 meter events.  Senior Mary Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) and sophomores Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) and Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) also posted two wins apiece. Van Allen claimed the top spot in the 200 Individual Medley and the 200 Freestyle, turning in a season-best in the latter. Continuing her stellar sophomore season, Duncan swept the backstroke events, besting the field by nearly two seconds in each race. Meanwhile, Swartz wrapped up first-place finishes in the 1650 Free and 400 IM.

Meanwhile, Wayne State and Tiffin each make return trips to Ypsilanti after having already competed in Jones Natatorium once this year. Both teams took part in the EMU Invitational back in December. Most recently however, WSU topped Findlay, 161-78, in Detroit. The Dragons finished fourth of five teams at the EMU Invitational and opened the new year with an 88-82 setback at the hands of Edinboro, Jan. 13. Each team will compete Friday, Jan. 20, prior to battling the Eagles.

Competition from Jones Natatorium is slated to begin at 1 p.m. and can be followed through MeetMobile or by live results, which can be found here.
