YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team has competed in a total of three meets throughout the young 2016-17 season so far. The Eagles opened the year with the Findlay Oiler Opener and the Hoosier Open, Dec. 9-10, and recently wrapped up the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, Jan. 14, turning in a number of strong performances.

Through those three meets, a trio of Eagles hold onto top-15 spots in the 5000m according to the most recent NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying list from the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). Leading the charge for EMU is redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee), who currently sits at No. 4 with a time of 14:01.99. Behind him, redshirt juniors Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) and Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge) hold the No. 10 and No. 11 spots, respectively.

Additionally, a pair of heptathletes also hold top-50 spots. Freshman Drew Lament (Lakeview, Ohio - Waynesfield-Goshen) currently sits at No. 38 with a point total of 4484 from the Oiler Opener. Just three spots behind him, sophomore Alex Jacobs (Dublin, Ohio - Dublin Jerome) currently maintains the No. 41 spot with a total of 4453 points, also from Findlay.

On the team side, the Eagles also appear in the most recent men's dual meet rankings from trackandfieldnews.com. The Green and White currently hold the No. 20 spot, one behind No. 19 Penn and one ahead of No. 21 Oklahoma. EMU is one of three Mid-American Conference teams featured, as Akron and Kent State are featured in the top-20 as well.

To be ranked, a team must compete in one or more dual meets, which is defined as a scored meet between four or fewer teams, throughout the indoor season. Additionally, teams are also ranked based on wins and losses, marks, and strength and depth of dual meet schedule. In sum, teams are rewarded for taking dual meet competition seriously.

The Green and White will resume action next week, as the squad will play host to the annual EMU Triangular, Saturday, Jan. 28.
