The Green and White will travel to Youngstown State and Marshall

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University tennis team will open up the 2017 dual season this weekend, Friday, Jan. 13, and Sunday, Jan. 15. Friday night, the Green and White will travel to Youngstown, Ohio to square off with Youngstown State University at 6 p.m., before heading to Huntington, W. Va. for a matchup with the Thundering Herd of Marshall University at 11 a.m.

Friday's match with the Penguins marks the third time in EMU history that the Eagles have met up with YSU. Eastern Michigan owns a perfect 2-0 record versus the Penguins. It will be the first time that the Green and White will travel to Youngstown. EMU first took on YSU back on April 9, 2007, when they shut out the Penguins, 7-0, at home. In the Eagles' other match with Youngstown State, Eastern dropped YSU, 5-2, in Ypsilanti, March 7, 2014.

When the Green and White travel to Marshall, it will be taking on the Thundering Herd for the 21st time in EMU tennis history. Marshall, a former member of the Mid-American Conference, has a commanding 15-5 lead in the series. The two schools first met during the 1985 campaign when the then-Hurons toppled the Thundering Herd, 8-1. Eastern Michigan has not defeated Marshall since the 2002 campaign and has lost 13-straight dual matches to the Thundering Herd since their 5-2 victory that season, including a 4-0 loss in the 2002 MAC Championship match.
