Meet Information

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Following a great season-opening weekend in Kalamazoo, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team keeps the 2016 season rolling, heading to Northville, Mich. for the Detroit Titan Invitational, Sept. 10. This marks the first time that the Eagles will be participating in the meet since 2009, when they took second with 29 points.

"We won't have our full team racing this weekend, but we are definitely looking to get some positives out of the competition," stated Head Coach Sue Parks. "It will be good to have some different leaders in this race, and also give some other athletes the opportunity to score for the team. I'm excited to see how we can do without five of our top runners in the lineup."

Last weekend, the Green and White cruised to victory at the George Dales Invitational, Sept. 2, sweeping the top four individual spots en route to a team total of 16 points. Leading the charge for Eastern was junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison), who dominated the field, crossing the finish line in 16:57.27, which was nearly thirty seconds quicker than the second-place finisher. McDermitt's finish marked the first time that she posted a 5,000m time of less than 17 minutes, as her previous best was 17:03. For her performance, McDermitt was selected as the Mid-American Conference Runner of the Week.

Also turning in a fantastic race was redshirt sophomore Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. - Chippewa Valley), who made her EMU cross country debut in the meet. Cizmas was able to bring home the silver, clocking in at 17:24.57, which was also approximately 30 seconds quicker than the third-place finisher. Rouding out the top-three for Eastern was senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) with a time of 17:53.55.

The meet, which takes place in Cass Benton Park, is slated to kick off at 9:30 a.m. with the 5,000m women's open race. The Eagles will begin the 5,000m women's colleigate invitational at 11:15 a.m. For more information on the meet, and a complete schedule, please click here.
