Eagles Finish Up Day Two of the Gopher Invitational

EMU struggled in singles play on the second day of competition
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University's tennis team completed day two of its 2016-17 campaign's opening weekend at the Gopher Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota. The day began with doubles action were EMU came away with a pair of victories, but the Green and White were unable to grab a victory in singles play.
Beginning with doubles play with Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School) and Marie Mayerova (Krmelin, Czech Republic) falling, 6-2 to Minnesota's AnnMarie Emme and Camila Vargas Gomez before a 6-2 victory over San Jose State's Miyo Kobayashi and Diane Flament. Ani Gogvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia-Khikhani) and Maria Paula Ribero (Bucaramanga, Colombia) dropped a 6-3 decision to Mimi Yunker and Preethi Kasilingam before knocking off Iowa's Montana Crawford and Taylor Tamblyn.
The Green and White struggled in singles play, dropping each of its four singles matches. Each of the Eagles' setbacks were in the consolation round, while Martinovska, who was playing in the semifinal of Flight C fell, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (1).a
EMU closes out the Gopher Invitational Sunday, Sept. 25. Action begins at the Baseline Tennis Center at 9 a.m.
