EMU women's golf sits in eighth after day one

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team opened up its 2016 fall season at the Mary Fossum Invitational on the Forest Akers West Golf Course. The Eagles sit in eighth-place after two rounds of the invite Saturday, Sept. 24, shooting a 614 (310-304).
Sophomore Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) paced the Green and White on day one, shooting a two-round score of 145 (74-71) to sit in seventh overall, while senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) carded a 147 (76-71), tying for eighth overall after day one.
Making her collegiate debut, freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) is tied for 49th at 159 (81-78). Junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) posted a 163 (79-84) and sophomore Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) finished with a 166 (81-85).
Playing as individuals, redshirt junior Brenna Hammond (West Bloomfield, Mich.-Detroit Mercy) is tied for 56th with a 161 (83-78) followed by freshman Julia Stevenson (Milford, Mich.-Milford) in 72nd at 170 (84-86).
The University of Miami holds the lead, shooting 569 (286-283), 30 shots ahead of Princeton who carded a 599 (301-298).
The Eagles will conclude the invitational Sunday, Sept. 25, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Fans can track the EMU women's golf scores at EMUEagles.com or BirdieFire.com.
