Women's Cross Country Set to Lift Lid on 2016 Season

The Eagles begin the hunt for their second MAC title this Friday in Kalamazoo

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team will kickoff its 2016 season this Friday, Sept. 2, at the George Dales Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich.

This marks the ninth consecutive year in which the Eagles will make the trek west for the race, which is hosted by Western Michigan University. Specifically, the meet will take place at the Pine View Golf Club, with the women's race being a 6,000-meter run beginning at 6 p.m.

Last season at the race, the Green and White took home four of the top-five spots, winning the meet with 21 points. Leading the charge for the Eagles was Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison), who took home the silver after clocking in at 20:54.24. Just behind her, Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - Univ. of Leuven) claimed the bronze, crossing the finish line in 21:29.81.

Also bringing home top-five finishes was Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83), who took fourth in her EMU debut with a time of 21:45.56, and Danielle Bentzley (Birmingham, Mich. - Seaholm) in fifth after clocking in at 21:51.23.
