The redshirt junior will lead the Eagles throughout the 2016 campaign
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - With the 2016 season quickly approaching, the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team announced its 2016 team captain today, August 22. The Eagles will be led by redshirt junior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge) throughout the upcoming campaign.
"From his first day on campus, Hlynur has been such a positive, dedicated, and hard working competitive student-athlete," explained head coach John Goodridge. "He is a very easy choice for our team captain."
Andresson, who will be entering his third season donning the Green and White, has been one of the team's top harriers throughout his first two seasons in Ypsilanti. Last year, the Icelander snagged all-region honors after placing 17th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional with a time of 31:10.8.
He also found success at the Mid-American Conference Championships, being named Second Team All-MAC after crossing the finish line in 24:46.27 to take ninth. As a redshirt freshman, Andresson brought home All-MAC First Team honors by finishing the conference championship meet in fifth.
Additionally, he was also named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete for his success both athletically, and academically.
Andresson and the Eagles will open their season at the Titan Invitational, Sept. 10, in Northville, Mich.
