YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — It was a busy day of football and fun at "The Factory" Saturday Aug. 20, as the Eastern Michigan Football team began the day with a team scrimmage before following with the third annual Youth Day festivities.
It was also Media Day, as members of the coaching staff and student-athletes met with the press. Players also stopped by EMU All-Access throughout the day to give their thoughts on the Youth Day activities.
The morning began with the scrimmage, which lasted a little over an hour. The scrimmage featured the offense against the defense in situational scenarios, such as the two-minute drill and goal-line plays. The team also ran through special teams drills, working on punts, field goals, and kick-offs.
After business was taken care of on the field, it was time for the fun, as EMU played host to Youth Day. It gave area children an opportunity to visit with the Eagles' student-athletes while enjoying football-related fun and games.
More than 150 children in kindergarten through sixth grade had the chance to come down onto the "EMU Gray Turf" of The Factory and experience the joy of running around in a safe, fun environment, while learning a few things about the game of football. The Eagle players interacted and encouraged their new friends throughout the day.
At the end of the festivities, the kids in attendance were given a poster and got autographs from all of their favorite Eagle players.
EMU will open its 125th season on the gridiron with a non-conference home game against Mississippi Valley State University Friday, Sept. 2, in Rynearson Stadium. Single game and season tickets are now on sale online at EMUEagles.com, by calling 734.487.2282 or by visiting the EMU Ticket Office daily between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Single game ticket prices start at just $15 for adults and $8 for youth 12-and-under.
