YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University football team hit the practice field twice Thursday, Aug. 18, for its third two-a-day of the 2016 campaign. Following the morning session, redshirt junior Luke Maclean (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc-Pittsburgh) spoke to EMUEagles.com as the team prepares for an action-packed weekend.
The team will go through a busy Saturday, Aug. 20, schedule at The Factory. EMU will scrimmage Saturday morning before hosting Youth Day which is designed for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. The Youth Day event, which is open and free to the public, runs from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. inside Rynearson Stadium.
The opportunity is designed for youth to connect with members of the 2016 football team while also being able to participate in drills.
Kids will have the opportunity to come down onto the gray turf and experience the joy of running around in a safe, fun environment, while learning a few things about the game of football. EMU players will be interacting and encouraging their new friends throughout the event. In addition, all youth participating in the clinic will receive a ticket to the team's Saturday, Oct. 29, matchup against Miami University.
Youth Day is an event that was introduced by Head Coach Chris Creighton back in 1997 when he first arrived at Ottawa University. Its purpose is to give area children an opportunity to visit with the Eagles' student-athletes while enjoying football-related fun and games.
