The Eagles tied for fourth in the West Division with Toledo
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Following an early end to the 2015 season, the Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team was picked to tie for fourth in the West Division in the 2016 MAC Preseason Poll, the conference announced Monday, Aug. 15.
Receiving 11 first-place votes, 2015 MAC Regular Season Champion, Ball State was tabbed as the favorite in the West. Meanwhile, the reigning tournament champion, Western Michigan, finished second in the poll, while Central Michigan rounded out the top three. EMU tied with Toledo for the fourth spot, and Northern Illinois rounded out the division.
In the East, Kent State edged out Miami for the top spot, despite tying with five first place votes apiece. Buffalo was picked third, receiving two first place votes, while Ohio, Akron, and Bowling Green wrapped up the East.
Five teams reeled in MAC Tournament Predicted Champion votes, with three teams finishing tied with three each. Ball State, Central Michigan, and Kent State earned three votes each to finish in a three-way tie. Buffalo and Miami were the final two vote-getters, earning two and one vote, respectively.
EMU finished the 2015 season with a 5-11-3 overall record and 2-7-2 mark in MAC play to finish sixth in the West, just missing the conference tournament. With the departure of five seniors, all of which started or played significant minutes for the Green and White, head coach Scott Hall will rely on the veteran leadership of seven seniors and a mix of youth in his 18th season at the helm.
After claiming a 3-1 exhibition win over Oakland, Aug. 12, EMU opens the season at home Sunday, Aug. 21, against Butler. The match is set to get underway at 1 p.m. at Scicluna Field.
