The John Mackey Awardwinner will be announced Dec. 7
NEW YORK, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Friends of John Mackey released the 2016 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List today, July 6. Representing the Eastern Michigan University football team on the list is senior tight end Cody Tuttle (Newbury Park, Calif.-Westlake (Nevada-Moorpark)).
The John Mackey Award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. The award recipient is selected by a vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The 2016 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on Dec. 7, and be presented with the award, Dec. 8, at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
One of four Mid-American Conference tight ends named to the 45-player list, Tuttle is coming off a junior campaign in which the Newbury Park, Calif. native appeared in all 12 games for the Eagles, garnering 11 starts. The 6-foot-4 tight end ranked fourth on the team in receptions with 33, while totaling 348 receiving yards, the third-most by an Eagle, in his first season with the Green and White. Tuttle's best game of the season came against Toledo, Oct. 17, when he hauled in a career-high eight receptions for a career-best 60 yards.
Tuttle and the Eagles open the 2016 season under the lights at "The Factory" inside Rynearson Stadium Friday, Sept. 1, versus Missisippi Valley State.
