Six Members of the Women's Track & Field Team Earn All-Academic Honors

New Orleans, La. (EMUEagles.com) – The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced yesterday, July 28, that six members of the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team earned spots on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team. The Eagles finished third in the Mid-American Conference with their six selections, while Kent State led the way with 10.
Earning the honor for the Eagles was recent graduates Ellie Braidic and Sofie Gallein, senior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. – Grand Rapids Christian), and juniors Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. – Chippewa Valley), Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia – Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1), and Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison). The honor is the second for Braidic, while it is the first for Cizmas, Dreimane, Gallein, McDermitt, and Pollatz.
Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, an impressive total of 910 women from 192 universities earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2015-16 track & field season.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, each student athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of two athletic standards.
For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the top 96 nationally in an individual event, or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list.
For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships, which includes preliminary rounds.
