Eight Eagles Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

New Orleans, La. (EMUEagles.com) –
The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced yesterday, July 28, that eight members of the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team earned spots on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team. The Eagles led the Mid-American Conference with their eight selections, while Akron was second with six.

Earning the honor for the Eagles was recent graduates Jeff Elam, Mason Waynes, Matthew Williams, Keith Williams, Solomon Simmons, Scott Bradley, redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee), and redshirt junior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. – Mason). This marked the second time that Elam, Waynes, Keith Williams, Simmons and Fink received the award, while it was the first for Matthew Williams, Bradley, and Raymond.

Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 570 men from 161 universities earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2015-16 track & field season.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, each student athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of two athletic standards.

For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the top 96 nationally in an individual event, or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list.

For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships, which includes preliminary rounds.
