Creighton was one of five FBS coaches to be nominated for the offseason award

NORTHBROOK, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) - Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association announced today, July 13, that Eastern Michigan University Head Football Coach Chris Creighton was nominated as a Honorary Head Coach for the 2016 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Creighton joins Mark Dantonio of Michigan State, Willie Fritz of Tulane, Nick Saban of Alabama, and Mark Richt of Miami as the five Football Bowl Subdivision coaching nominees. Additionally, John Grass of Jacksonville State, Steve Ryan of Morningside College, Tim Beck of Pittsburg State, Curt Wiese of Minnesota-Duluth, and Glenn Caruso of St. Thomas were nominated within the Combined Divisions, which includes FCS, II, III, and NAIA schools.

The coveted offseason award, which was established in 1992, recognizes a select group of college football players and coaches that have made a commitment to service and enriching the lives of others.

For the previous 25 years, the players selected have carried on the award's mission by demonstrating that the idea of 'good works' extends beyond the football field and into the community. This year's nominees have impressive service resumes which detail inspiring stories of community service and the ability to balance academics with athletics, while also donating their limited free time and energy to helping others.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the award, Allstate and the AFCA will add three extra spots to this year's team and announce a final roster of 25 members in September. For the first time in the history of the award, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be made of 12 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, 12 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA, and an honorary head coach.

With the focus remaining on the field each season, off-the-field service contributions can often go overlooked. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team pays tribute to these stories of good and the student-athletes who have dedicated themselves to helping others.

From the nominees submitted by sports information directors nationwide on behalf of their schools, a special voting panel, which consists of former Good Works Team members and prominent college football media members, will select the 2016 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

The following coaches have been nominated for consideration to be named to the 2016 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team ® as the honorary head coach.
