CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Kickoff times and television arrangements for five of the Eastern Michigan University football team's six 2016 home games have been set. The Mid-American Conference announced today, June 9, times and media-rights partners for the first three weeks of the regular season and much of the midweek October and November games slated for national television distribution.
In total, EMU currently has five games scheduled to be showcased nationally on either CBS Sports Network, ESPN2, ESPNU, or the SEC Network. Since the start of the 2008 campaign, Eastern Michigan has had 87 games either televised or streamed via the Internet. Fourty-three of those small-screen appearances have occurred on the ESPN-family of networks (30 ESPN3, 6 ESPNU, 5 ESPN+, 1 ESPN2, 1 SEC Network and 1 ABC).
The Eagles will open their third season under Head Coach Chris Creighton in just 85 days with a 6 p.m. kickoff on Friday, Sept. 2, versus Mississippi Valley State University on the gray turf inside Rynearson Stadium. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN3. The game will again be a part of EMU's First Four: New Student Orientation weekend with plenty of activities planned throughout the day. All EMU students receive free admission to the game (as well as all home athletic events) with their valid student ID. Meanwhile, EMU faculty and staff are able to purchase season tickets for just $48, a savings of 38 percent off the normal rate.
The following weekend, EMU continues non-conference action at the University of Missouri, Sept. 10. The game will air on the SEC Network's alternate channel at 6:30 p.m. CT from Faurot Field in Columbia, Mo. From there, the Eagles will remain on the road with a trip to Charlotte, N.C. to open a home-and-home series with the second-year Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) member University of North Carolina Charlotte 49ers. A 6 p.m. start time for the game has been established.
The Green and White's week four game against the University of Wyoming inside "The Factory" will be in primetime on Friday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
Eastern Michigan then opens its 41st MAC season at 3 p.m. on the road at defending league champion, Bowling Green State University, Oct. 1. A 3 p.m. start time was also established for the Eagles' 96th Annual Homecoming Celebration against the University of Toledo, Oct. 8. However, the television partner airing the games has not been determined.
EMU will then play back-to-back road games at Ohio University, Oct. 15, and Western Michigan University, Oct. 22, and then close out the month with a home game versus Miami University, Oct. 29. Kick times and television partners will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled games.
Eastern Michigan will enjoy a bye in week 10, as it transitions to midweek football that has become referred to in pop culture as MACtion. Coach Creighton leads his team to Muncie, Ind. on election night Tuesday, Nov. 8, to battle Ball State University. The West Division affair will be shown on either ESPN2 or CBS Sports Network at 7:30 p.m.
A Wednesday, Nov. 16, contest inside The Factory then awaits EMU against Northern Illinois University. A national television audience will be able to watch the game on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. Kickoff will be at with 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. depending on which ESPN platform shows the game.
The Eagles then close the regular season against in-state rival Central Michigan University Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. on either ESPNU or ESPN3. The pre-Thanksiving finale marks the first time since the 2007 that the Eagles will not have to play on "Black Friday".
The league's regular season concludes with the 20th Marathon MAC Football Championship game Friday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit on ESPN2. This will mark the 13th Marathon MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
After a spring full of hard work and excitement, EMU is gearing up for its 2016 campaign. Season tickets for the 2016 season are on sale now. The Eagles will have six home contests at Rynearson Stadium for the second consecutive season. In addition, three midweek contests close the schedule and are a program first since the MAC began playing nationally-televised non-Saturday November games in 1999.
Fans can now order reserved non-chairback season tickets for just $75 ($12.50 per game). EMU faculty and staff can secure non-chairback season tickets for $48 ($8 per game), while youth season tickets are just $36 ($6 per game). In addition, EMU is now offering the Ultimate Fan Package for $99. The premiere plan will include a padded chairback seat, free parking, food voucher and VIP discount card. This season, Eastern Michigan has created a young alumni discount with seats available directly next to the student section located in Section 104. Young Alumni season tickets are only $60 ($10 per game) and are available for alumni 40 and under.
For the 2016 season, EMU Football season ticket holders will enjoy more than just the action on the field with a number of exclusive benefits, including: a season ticket holder gift, exclusive discounts at Qdoba on all season ticket backs and a concession/merchandise voucher.
Tickets are now on sale online at EMUEagles.com/tickets, by calling 734.487.2282 or by visiting the EMU Ticket Office daily between 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
