YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will be represented in the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials, July 1-10, by volunteer assistant coach Candice Davis-Price.

Davis-Price, who competed for the University of Southern California during her collegiate career, will take part in the 100m hurdles. She qualified into the trials on the heels of running a time of 12.75 seconds, which exceeded the Olympic qualifying standard of 13 seconds.  This marks the second time that Davis-Price will be competing at the Olympic Trials, as she also took part in the event in 2008, where she finished just .04 seconds away from making the U.S. team.

"Candice has been a great role model for our student-athletes," remarked Head Coach Sue Parks. "She is an extremely hard worker who understands what it takes to get to the top. She has dealt with some setbacks in her road to make it to the trials, but she has fought back like a champion and is ready to give it her best in Eugene."

The University of Southern California alumnus is no stranger to international competition, as she was part of the 2008 World Indoor Championships team, taking second in the 60m hurdles. Before the international scene, Davis-Price found plenty of success at USC, capping her career with a second-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.90.

"Working this year with Candice has taught me a lot," explained Assistant Coach Chris Best. "She is one of the hardest working individuals that I have ever met. It's a honor to work with someone who does everything you ask of them and doesn't settle for anything less than perfection. The hurdles is one of the hardest events in the U.S., but with the hard work and dedication that Candice has put in this year, I have no doubt that she is a true contender to make the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team."

Competition in the 100m hurdles will begin on Thursday, July 7, with the first round taking place at 5:02 p.m. pacific time. Based upon qualification, the semi-finals will then take place the following day, Friday, July 8, at 3:58 p.m. The finals will then take place later that evening at 5:54 p.m. For more information on the U.S. Olympic Trials, please click here.
