Weppernig Earns Spot in European Amateur Team Championship

The EMU men's golfer will play for his home country of Switzerland, July 5-9
EPALINGES, Switzerland (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University men's golfer Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern (Owens C.C.)) has been selected to play in the 2016 European Amateur Team Championship, July 5-9, at the Golf de Chantilly course just outside of Paris, France. Weppernig will represent his home country of Switzerland in the tournament.
In his first season donning the Green and White, Weppernig appeared in eight tournaments for the Eagles during the 2015-16 campaign. The Lucerne, Switzerland native averaged a score of 75.96 throughout the season, which comes out to an average of a four-over par. His best finish came at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, Sept. 25-27, when he tied for 27th place with a final score of 217, one-over par, in three rounds of action. At the Desert Shootout, March 18-19, Weppernig shot even par for his best score of the season.
Teams will have the chance to take the course twice, July 3-4, for practice rounds, before a grueling five-round, five day championship takes place. For the first two rounds of action, teams will take part in stroke play competition, while following it up with three match play rounds. There are 16 countries taking part in the championship.
Golf de Chantilly was opened in 1908 after being designed by British architect Tom Simpson, who has built many famous courses across Europe. Golf de Chantilly comprises of two 18-hole courses, the "Vineuil" and the "Longeres". The 2016 European Amateur Team Championship will be played on the Vineuil course. The Vineuil is a 6,399-yard par-71 course which will test the golfers on a seasoned course with many modern adaptions to today's game.
