Senior Austin Wilson extended his hitting streak to nine games
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team fell at home to the No. 21 Michigan Wolverines 12-0, Wednesday night, May 4, at a brisk and soggy Oestrike Stadium.
Despite the Eagles only collecting two hits on the evening, one of them came from senior Austin Wilson (Valrico, Fla.-Bloomingdale Sr.), extending his hitting streak to nine games. Eastern also drew four walks in the contest.
On the mound, freshman Gary Clift Jr. (Brunswick, Ohio-Brunswick) had a milestone day, striking out the first two batters of his EMU career in his one inning of relief, a scoreless frame.
The Wolverines jumped ahead in the first with a run on an RBI double. They scored three more after an error in the second allowed three unearned runs to come around, giving UM a 4-0 advantage in the second inning.
After a scoreless third, UM tacked on three more runs in the fourth on four hits and an error, extending their already sizeable lead to 7-0. One more was plated in the fifth on a pair of hits, giving UM an 8-0 advantage after five innings. Michigan scored in the third consecutive inning with another run in the sixth, making the score 9-0.
The final three runs came in the eighth on three more hits and another error, giving UM the decisive 12-0 lead to finish things out.
Eastern gets back into Mid-American Conference play this weekend when it travels to Muncie, Ind. to take on the MAC West leading Cardinals of Ball State. First pitch for the weekend is set for 3 p.m., Friday, May 6.
