Fink Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

The announcement marked the second time Fink has earned the honor

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio-Maumee) was recognized for his academic excellence Thursday, May 26, as the distance runner for EMU's track and field team was named to the Academic All-District Men's Track and Field/Cross Country First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The award marked the second consecutive season in which Fink garnered the distinction.

Fink, a master's student studying chemistry, boasts a 3.87 grade point average. At the MAC Championships, the Maumee, Ohio product was named Most Valuable Performer and First Team All-MAC after winning both the 5,000 meter run and 3,000 meter steeplechase. A two-time MAC Track Athlete of the Week, Fink has posted eight top-three finishes this season. Fink's performance has been highlighted by some of the fastest time in EMU history as well as some highly ranked national times. At the Mt. SAC Relays, April 13-14, Fink crossed the finish line in 13:43.06 in the 5,000 meter. His time marked the third-fastest race by an Eagle all-time. He also turned in the fifth-best time in the 10,000 meter at the Raleigh Relays, March 25-26, finishing the race in 29:04.92. Ahead of this week's regional competition, Fink holds three of the nation's top-40 times. 

Fink and the Eagles continue the 2016 campaign at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla., with hopes of qualify for the NCAA Championships. Action begins today with the final event taking place Saturday, May 28.
