CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) –
Senior Mitchell McGeein (Calgary, Alberta-Vauxhall) and sophomore Brennan Williams (Commerce Township, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) were named to the Mid-American Conference First Team and Second Team, respectively, the league office announced today, May 24, in a vote by the league's head coaches.  The honors are the first all-conference accolades for each of the two players, and it is the first time EMU has had two players selected since 2013.

McGeein, honored as a third baseman, led the Eagles offense this season, finishing at the top of seven offensive categories.  He leads EMU in walks (31), on-base percentage (.417), slugging percentage (.588), runs (35), home runs (13), total bases (100), and RBI's (35).  He is also second in batting average (.300).

Not only is he the best on EMU, but he also ranks as one of the top sluggers in the MAC, as well as the country.  Currently, the Calgary native is tied for third in the MAC in home runs, is 10th in on-base percentage, and is also sixth in slugging percentage.  His home run and slugging numbers also rank him 44th and 88th, respectively, in the country.

The award caps off a spectacular career in the Green and White for McGeein.  The four-year starter ranks on the all-time list for six offensive categories, led by his 32 career home runs, which is fifth all-time.  He was also just the 24th player to ever reach the 100-RBI plateau, and currently has 111 in his career.

Williams, honored as a designated hitter, has been the other Eagle atop the offensive leaderboard.  The sophomore leads EMU with a .312 batting average, 59 hits, and 11 doubles.  He has also been a threat on the base paths, ranking fifth on the team with nine steals.  The Michigan native also has a team-best 18 multi-hit games.  He earned MAC Player of the Week honors the first week of the season, Feb. 21.

Eastern Michigan continues the 2016 season at the MAC Tournament as the No. 8 seed.  The Eagles begin play tomorrow against the No. 1 seed Kent State University.  First pitch from All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio is set for approximately 4:30 p.m.
