Kyle Rodes, Nic Ross and Brett White collected the honor

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team saw three student-athletes named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team by the league office Friday, May 20. Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth), Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) and Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) each garnered the honor.  For Ross, it was the first time he was named to the Academic All-MAC team, while Rodes and White earned the honor for the second and third times, respectively.

A total of 23 student-athletes were named to the team from this past season.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

Rodes, who holds a 3.64 GPA in exercise science, had a season average of 74.0 strokes per round, which ranked as the 13th-lowest scoring average in the league.  He finished inside the top-10 on two occasions, while posting a team-best 12 rounds of par-or-better. The Plymouth, Mich. product finished second at the MAC Championships with three rounds under-par (70-77-70-70). His second place finish was the best by an Eagle since 2008 while it was just the third time an EMU student-athlete finished in second at the conference tournament. Rodes finished seventh at the Desert Shootout with a 10-under 206 (68-70-68), a total that is tied for the best three-round score in program history.

Ross, a sophomore with a 3.64 GPA in general business, had a season average of 74.0 strokes per round, which ranked as the 13th-lowest scoring average in the MAC. The Dundas, Ontario native finished inside the top-10 once, while posting seven rounds of par-or-better. He tied for second at the Fighting Irish Gidiron Classic with a three-under 210 (69-70-71) and placed 15th at the Desert Shootout at seven-under 209 (69—73-67). Ross turned in a 299 (74-74-76-75) to tie for 18th at the MAC Championship and was part of a team that shattered the program's 54-hole record with a 855 (287-288-280) at the Desert Shootout.

White, who holds a 3.50 GPA in supply chain management, was voted Second Team All-MAC in 2015-16. He was also selected as the MAC's Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsmanship winner, becoming just the third Eastern Michigan player to earn the honor since 1981. White finished with an average of 73.03 strokes per round, which ranked as the eighth-best single-season scoring average in school history. The Caledonia, Mich. native ranked inside the top-10 on three occasions, while posting 10 rounds of par-or-better. He tied for fifth at the Firestone Invitational with a five-under 211 (71-74-66) and bettered his previous career-low for a 54-hole tournament when he carded a 212 at Del Walker Intercollegiate, March 2-3, 2015. White also tied for seventh at the MAC Tournament after leading the tournament after an opening round 66.
