Four Eagles Named to Academic All-MAC Squad

EMU was 1-of-3 schools with four-or-more named to the list
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team saw four of its student-athletes named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team by theleague office, Tuesday, May 17, as Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School), Renu Sharma (Fardabad, India), Klara Supejova (Prague, Czech Republic-Sportovni Gymnazium Klandno) and Anna Veleva (Sofia, Bulgaria) garnered the honor. For Martinovska, Sharma and Veleva, it was the first time they were named to the Academic All-MAC team, while Supejova garnered her third academic distinction by the conference.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Martinovska, a sophomore with a 3.68 grade point average is majoring in communication. The Plzn, Czech Republic native posted a 6-14 singles record in dual matches, including a 3-5 record in MAC contests. Martinovska teamed up with Supejova to go 4-1 in MAC doubles matches at No. 1 doubles.
Sharma has not yet declared a major but holds a 3.31 grade point average as a sophomore. Sharma posted a 4-15 record in dual matches this season, while grabbing a 6-18 record in doubles matches.
Supejova remained the Eagles' top player during her senior campaign, competing at No. 1 singles and doubles throughut the entire campaign. A sport managment major with a 3.56 grade point average, the Prague, Czech Republic native earned Second Team All-MAC accolades, becoming EMU's first four-time All-MAC awardwinner since Rebecca Hawkins completed her career in 2003. Supejova was the 2012 MAC Player of the Year and went 7-13 during dual matches this season in singles play. She teamed up with Martinovska to go 4-1 in MAC doubles matches at No. 1 doubles.
Veleva earned her first Academic All-MAC distinction as a sophomore. She is majoring in business administration and owns a 3.64 grade point average. The Sofia, Bulgaria native went 9-12 in dual matches during singles action. She teamed up with Sharma to go 6-9 during doubles matches, while posting a 1-1 record when teaming with either Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna ( Alicante, Spain-IES Figueras Racheco) or Martinovska.
