Eagles of the Week Presented by EMU Financial

Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMU Financial's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's track athlete Willy Fink and women's track athlete Jordann McDermitt.

Week's Achievements: Fink had a fantastic weekend for the Eagles at the Outdoor Mid-American Conference Championships, bringing home two event titles for the Eagles and helping the team to a second-place finish. In the 3000m steeplechase, the redshirt junior claimed the gold after crossing the finish line in 8:48.80, besting the second-place finisher from Akron by nearly eight seconds. Additionally, Fink also walked away with the 5000m title, clocking in at 14:43.83 to edge out teammate Nick Raymond. At the conclusion of the meet, the Maumee, Ohio native was named Most Valuable Performer for his fantastic conference championship meet, in addition to earning First-Team All MAC honors.

Week's Achievements: McDermitt played a huge role in helping the Green and White capture their 12th Mid-American Conference Outdoor title, in addition to the squad earning their first ever Triple Crown after winning the cross country and indoor track & field conference championships. Individually, McDermitt earned a pair of event titles throughout the meet. The sophomore came up big in the rescheduled 10000m run, being the first to cross the finish line by nearly eight seconds with a time of 34:39.35, which was also a MAC meet record. Nearing the end of the meet, McDermitt turned in a clutch performance in the 5000m, claiming the gold with a time of 16:45.36 to lead an EMU sweep. Following the meet, McDermitt earned First-Team All MAC honors for her contributions throughout the three-day meet.
